The House of Representatives cannot only refuse, but they alone can propose, the supplies requisite for the support of government. They, in a word, hold the purse that powerful instrument by which we behold, in the history of the British Constitution, an infant and humble representation of the people gradually enlarging the sphere of its activity and importance, and finally reducing, as far as it seems to have wished, all the overgrown prerogatives of the other branches of the government. This power over the purse may, in fact, be regarded as the most complete and effectual weapon with which any constitution can arm the immediate representatives of the people, for obtaining a redress of every grievance, and for carrying into effect every just and salutary measure.
James Madison, Federalist 58

And I’m tired of hearing RINOs calling defunding a losing strategy, as if they have anything better. The power of the purse is the only muscle the House has and it should flex that muscle to flip Obama the finger!
This clearly is the design and the intent of the function of the House. A profligate government is never more than 2 years away from being replaced.
Shut ‘er down!
Well said.
“The House not only has the right but responsibility to defund this monster, and if forcing Obama to shut down the government is the only way to do it, so be it”..
I would love to see a “poll” on that one with the results sent directly to the “House”. One part of the poll needs to include the consequence in the event the House fails to NOT defund it. (Automatic recall?)
