When I think of my late father’s duty as a US Marine in 3 wars, when I think of the men in the Chosin Reservoir Campaign, and then I watch this charade, truthfully it nearly brings tears to my eyes.
It would break my father’s heart to see what has become of the USMC.
When my daughter was young, a preteen, I told her that personal honor and loyalty were qualities that without, no person has any worth. A ditch digger with honor and loyalty is worth more than 10 Presidents or Generals without.
For all the times my father and I clashed as I grew up, for all the things we disagreed about over the years, I never doubted that he would gladly storm the gates of Hell for his comrades and his family. Damn few of those left.
Last year I read Jeff Shaara’s book, “The Final Storm”, about the battle of Okinawa. It still haunts my memory.
What our Marines did there merits all of them being awarded the MOH posthumously for the dead, and with full national honors for those still living.
It was chilling, disturbing.
