The Republican Party wishes the tea party would go away, and would prefer a new base altogether, says conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh.
In an hour-long interview with Fox News Channel’s Greta Van Susteren Tuesday, Limbaugh said the Republican leadership isn’t conservative.
“They’re not particularly crazy about conservatives,” he said, adding that members of the tea party can’t be controlled by the GOP leadership. In 2010, the grassroots movement rose up in opposition to President Barack Obama, but the Republican establishment didn't embrace them. …

As long as people keep listening to his show I don't think he would care if the Republicans all became Tea party-ers or John McCain clones.
He's not willing to ditch the two party system as he realizes that it's better to regain control of the Republican Party (as Reagan did) than to lose everything by insisting a third party can control our government.
Rush is realizing just how much the "old guard" as you put it, truly despises conservatives and by extension, conservatism!
Rush even gave Rubio the opportunity to define where his "line in the sand" was, only to find out he didn't actually have one!

It's sad so many here on FR are so pessimistic or downright immature when it comes to what it actually takes to win at politics.
One loss sends them over the edge, ready for a third party, which loses each and every time (Ross Perot, anyone?)
What works is a concerted effort to "Retire a RINO!" We did just that here in KS in 2012!
That took lots of effort and more than one electoral season to finally accomplish.
It also took lots of grassroots working tirelessly (again, I'm not certain a few here on FR have ever joined in a grassroots group to work hard to oust a bad politician, or just give lip service and sour grapes rather actually doing anything, as it's easier to chant third party than try to clean up the party that has a platform that most represents conservatives.)

yeah it sounds like lukewarmers to me. now that said it is simply impractical for a government to police every possible wrong; evil is complex and defies such solutions on a mortal coil. but the only things it should police should be undeniable wrongs.

Well yes. You cannot run on your laurels in Christian faith. Rear view steering is a huge fail. You have to keep your heading at Christ. But how does this relate to wise ways to run a government. I believe history has shown that the Constantine model won’t work. Jesus Himself personally physically present is needed to make a “Christian” government do anything like the right thing. Otherwise it will soon decay into men’s intrigues.
Well, ancient Israel and Judah always had prophets advising them. If the government ignored the prophet, they walked right into disaster; if they heeded the prophet, they returned to prosperity and security.
National Elections are over and done, Native Sunflower. There is no National Election of any US Federal Office. Pessimistic immaturity, has absolutely everything to do, with Our current reality, sing-song.
The two societies are not intended to be spiritually congruent. Israel was raised to serve not as a model for good secular government but as a model of serious holiness.
That's the hard part for many sitting on the sidelines to ever understand.
You actually have to do more than "want to win," you have to help make it happen!
Sitting on the sidelines might be more comfortable but working to take back control over a party run amok is a bit like a parent taking back control from a bunch of teenagers! If a parent let the kids make the decisions, like doing homework or watching TV, staying up playing video games or going to bed at a reasonable time, resuming the parental role will not be easy. In fact, it will be a battle but wars are not won after one battle.
They can be lost, however, if one loses the first or second skirmish and surrenders to the enemy.
I'm convinced, liberals like Orientals and Arabs see things in the very long view, while some conservatives only see to the end of one election.
Also, please note I’m claiming nothing against the value of evangelizing a society to the point that points of Christian faith become influential. The result is very salutary. Just that a “church” (congregation, called worshipers) shouldn’t try to co-opt a government. That even failed in the case of Israel (you know they were warned about kings) and God was fully expecting it to fail.
I would if it was FREE! Mark Levin, Alex Jones, and Todd Schnitt all let you listen to their shows for free online any time of the day or night. Rush wants you to pay to listen to his voice online. Screw him.
good point, the opposite which is optimistic maturity (which means taking a God informed view) is needed to bust out of it. well, the hope of grabbing a government to be Christian in and of itself (even if it were wise and possible) is gone till Jesus physically is here again to rule. the hope of evangelism, of selling the gospel, is NOT gone. the gospel is meant for losers. it is meant to turn losers into winners. those who think they are winners now (but use a worldly measure for it) are not ready for the gospel.
