Pointing to the broad spectrum of support from faith, labor and business groups that have lined up to support comprehensive immigration reform that includes a road map to citizenship, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) told the AFL-CIO Citizenship 2013 forum today, I am confident we can prevail.
McCain and Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.) kicked off the forum (we will bring more coverage later today) with a question-and-answer session at the AFL-CIO headquarters in Washington, D.C., about the bills prospects in the House after bipartisan (6832) passage in the U.S. Senate.
Without mentioning House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who has said he will not put the Senate bill on the floor for a vote, Becerra says:
"I think if the bill that passed the Senate was placed on the floor, it would pass bipartisanly .There is no reason we shouldnt do something that is good for our economy and something that is good for our country .This is the year we are going to do it as long as the people in the Capitol put country in front of party."
McCain says that whatever emerges from the House, a path to citizenship must be a fundamental element. He says polls show the American people overwhelmingly support allowing immigrants the opportunity for citizenship.
"Every poll I have seen, and I have seen hundreds, shows well over 70% of the American people support a path to citizenship .They support a path to citizenship because they realize this is an issue of 11 million people who are living shadows, who are deprived of their rights citizens and cant live normal lives and are not going back to where they came from."
Without the protection of citizenship, says McCain, immigrants are exploited in a wide variety of ways.
Several Republican House leaders and members have proposed allowing aspiring citizens to remain the country and work but without any chance of earning citizenship. Says Becerra:
"I dont think this country is ready to go back to the 20th or 19th century where we have a second class of citizens. "
They also have called for a piecemeal approach, with several measures aimed at specific elements of immigration reform, but not a comprehensive package. Says Becerra:
"You dont do this in bits and pieces because if the machine is broken and you fix one part, all youve got is a machine with a part that works OK, but you still have a broken machine."
He says the four key elements the House must address are citizenship, workplace rights, border enforcement and fixing the current visa system.
Says McCain:
"I have a great faith in the American people
at the end of the day were going to do the right thing."
It sickens me that once upon a time I voted for this jerk.
And I think I did so in a primary election, too, since it was all over by the May primary in Ohio.
I would never do the primary support over again knowing what I know now.
Hey I know McCain is just saying— the Mexicans—and OTM only want to follow the lead of Barack Hussein Obama II—his path to citizenship seems to have gone from Kenya to Hawaii but by passed our Southern border. Musta been afraid he’d run into a Muslim that might remember him down there.
McCain says that whatever emerges from the House, a path to citizenship must be a fundamental element.
(Because that’s all we want anyway, heh ...
Hey! tap tap tap, is this thing on?)
McStain launched any missiles on aircraft carriers lately?
By the way would you be upset if one of your dreamers raped your surgically enhanced wife? Or your Meghan? You know like the the one who raped the 93 year old grandma to death? Or the 9 month old baby. How would you react if your precious grand baby was raped to death by a dreamer? Would you be upset if the police came to tell your sorry but they were raped and murdered by an illegal alien who was deported dozens of times. Also he is a known sex offender and drug runner that killed border agents with guns sold by eric the red holder?
What say you McStain?
What is it about AZ and their strong support for illegal immigration?
I've seen similar 'polls' and simply find this hard to believe.
Some anecdotal evidence: Our local paper's online articles have a comment section. Although East Tennessee is fairly conservative, my estimate is that the comments generally run about 60/40 liberal. There was recently an article about an 'immigration' (read: illegal alien) rally held locally. When I looked at the article, there were 22 comments. Every single one of them was anti-illegal alien. Even posters I recognized as normally liberal. Granted, they were a bit less vehement, but definitely not sympathetic to the illegals 'plight.' Given that, I have a hard time believing that 70% of the population want to reward these illegal invaders with citizenship.
Incidentally, the liberal piece of junk paper 'locked' the comment section, since they weren't getting the comments they wanted.
” Cmon AZ you can do better then this joker.”
Give me the $ 21,600,000 McCain spent to get re-elected, and I will beat him hands down.
As did Hatch.
Palin’s only human, but they weren’t her two best endorsements.
Juan finally got so bad that his meds no longer have any effect. God Bless his service, but it’s time for him to enjoy retirement.
I won't vote for his ideological great nephew Rubio either.
