th sisimplistic solution would be to close down entirely. let people a)do without the service, and b) the employees will get 0% of a lot, which, to a lib, is better then 100% of something...
We have a small business franchise that (under more and more government regulation) has been going under. Our franchise agreement runs out next year, and we are trying to sell it but will close it if there is no buyer. Seems like many of the same owner/operator franchises are closing around the country for many of the same reasons. We only offer part-time work, and we hear the same story: We love the job, but need benefits, need more hours, need a higher hourly wage. Trouble is, even with sales and commissions, it's still a low-tech, low salaried job that doesn't pay much above minimum wage. I have seen it repeated where employees leave to chase the rainbow (with no other skills or education) and expect to jump to a higher pay scale just because they feel entitled. The results have been disastrous for them, but they blame me. Now, I'm going out of business, and there will be at least 3 part-time positions that will be gone from the economy. Multiply that by the number of franchises that are out there closing in the next 1-2 years and you're talking hundreds to thousands of jobs.
I liken it to the toll roads here. The built them, and their projections for toll-paying riders was not realized. Therefore, they are raising tolls! I used to use the toll roads, but now do not because of the (increasing) expense.
Sounds like a democratic plan to me...
