TAVARES, Fla. —Propane explosions at the Blue Rhino LP gas plant rocked the Tavares area on Monday night.
The plant is located at the 300 block of County Road 448 and several residential areas surround it. A 1-mile evacuation of the area was ordered before midnight.
A massive emergency response was called for after multiple injuries were reported.
Several locals called WESH 2 to report seeing flames and hearing loud explosions.

I remember many years ago when I was working in the grain industry and there was a rash of explosions and loss of life. Blamed dust accumulations due to poor housekeeping, electrical problems and grain handling methods. Grain companies began to spend millions and millions of dollars to change out electrical, install clean rooms and tried several methods to alleviate airborne dust. Then as quickly as they started they stopped. Just weird.

53,000 20 pound propane tanks on site. Company business was the refilling of empty propane tanks. Company also performs reconditioning and recertification of said tanks.

Per Tavares Fire Dept., they believe it was equipment failure and human error from one of the staff. They are still investigating though. Vance Yokem on Fox News: “I heard loud explosions that rocked the house. The cat ran like He@@ because he thought I was going to blame him for something.” lol!
