Jefferson was pretty enthusiastic about the French Revolution.

Jefferson initially supported the French Revolution's goals of replacing an absolutist monarchy with a constitutional republic, as did many of America's founders. You can't really blame individuals who overthrew the rule of a king in their land from supporting the same elsewhere.

Neither he nor they supported Robespierre's reign of terror nor the increasing radicalism of the revolutionaries. As far as I'm aware, Jefferson disavowed his support for the revolution when he saw what had become of it.
