I live about one mile out beyond the last Metrobus stop. If you look at a crime map, incidents taper off rapidly the farther you get from that stop. They peter out altogether about a half-mile away. That's about as far as the yutes seem to be willing to walk on foot in an area with no sidewalks. To get to me they have to find me, though...

That is exactly why wealthy suburbs west of Newark NJ opposed extending the rail line connecting NYC to Newark; they knew what would happen. Southwest of Newark the wealthy areas opposed having highway exits in their towns as well (using the same logic). In both cases they were vindicated by the crime maps you mention.
