DETROIT The bus driver made a mistake; there was no turning back.
Fifty Mexican immigrants, none of them documented citizens and only three with Green Cards, were on a bus from the Hispanic Center in Grand Rapids destined for the Mexican Consulate in Detroit Thursday when they found themselves unexpectedly under the scrutiny of Canadian border officials.
Ariel Moutsatsos, the minister of press for the Embassy of Mexico in Washington D.C., says the bus driver "made the wrong decision" and inadvertently took the highway onto the the Ambassador Bridge connecting Detroit to Windsor, Ontario. Once on the bridge, vehicles must cross over to Canada Customs.
Fourty-seven of the 50 passengers were detained temporarily but have since been released, said Moutsatsos. Forty-one, 10 of them minors, received notices to appear for migratory status hearings in the U.S. and could face deportation, he said.
Three others remained jailed due to criminal records. One of the detained had a warrant for a previous attempt to enter the U.S. without proper documentation.
Moutsatsos did not know the previous crimes of the other two jailed immigrants.
They are being held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and an Mexico Embassy-provided attorneys plans to meet with them Monday, said Moutsatsos.
He said the bus was a service provided by the Grand Rapids agency and the passengers were headed to the Mexican Consulate to tend to various documentation needs.
MLive Detroit was unable to reach the Canadian Border Services Agency, Mexican Consulate or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for comment Friday afternoon.

LOL
...were on a bus from the Hispanic Center in Grand Rapids destined for the Mexican Consulate in Detroit Thursday when they found themselves unexpectedly under the scrutiny of Canadian border officials.
No ha-ha here. It was catch-and-release.
If only our southern border had this kind of security .....
While our government has screwed around on border control for decades, groups like this “Hispanic center” have been importing illegals as fast as they can.
The saddest part is that Michigan has relatively few illegals. I hate to think how bad this sort of thing is in states with a lot of illegals.
Yes, and it is criminal. Literally.
But Holder’s DOJ will NOT prosecute any offence by “his people”.
Grand Rapids sits on the line between the 2nd congressional district (Rep. Bill Huizenga [R]) and 3rd congressional district (Rep. Justin Amash [R]). They need to be questioned about what they intend to do about the open criminality going on here.
Looks like it might be in the 3rd district. (Amash)
Well then, there might be a glimmer of hope that someone might actually take notice of this if Amash were contacted about it.
Canada Ping!
It wasn’t very long ago that the three questions asked at both sides of the Windsor/Detroit border were:
Where were you born?
Do you have anything to declare?
How long will you be staying?
Have a nice visit.
It is a federal felony to transport illegal aliens. When is Holder going to charge teh bus driver and the executive from the invaders’ Hispanic Center with the appropriate charge?
Only 1 ?. . One of the detained had a warrant for a previous attempt to enter the U.S. without proper documentation. Notice in Canada they are not making any demands, staging hunger strikes,etc,etc,etc..
Yes, after 9/11 the US felt it needed to tighten up border security with Canada because it was felt that our immigration controls weren’t tight enough, and that Canada might be a hotbed of terrorist cells. And, admittedly, they have caught a couple over the years. I think Canada has more to fear from a flood of Mexican and other central/south Americans entering from the US. I do believe Canada, at least, requires Mexicans to have a visa to enter Canada now, due to their proclivity for entering and staying illegally. We even have a bunch of bleeding hearts up here in Toronto that want to make it a “sanctuary city” for illegal immigrants - apparently they want to repeat the mistakes made in the US.
Yup. I’m just an old fart from Detroit longing for the good old days that are now long gone. Fight those bleeding hearts, ehh.
