The cop was justified in pepper spraying uncompliant students blocking a walkway. Pepper spray is among the lowest levels of force that can legally be applied to lawbreakers willfully, illegally disobeying an order - way below tasers, strikes with a baton, or stun guns.

He was only the victim of out-of-control political correctness.

If they were in fact UC Davis students, then they had a right to be on that walkway. Pike and his buddies didn’t bother to check for student ID before they went for the gas. And they could have easily walked right around the students. A cat or dog would have done as much. And he’s not a victim of PC. UC Davis’ attorneys knew they’d get the pants sued off of them if they didn’t settle, and fire not only Pike, but his boss Spicuzzi as well. And as for pepper spray being a “low” level of force, well, use it on someone with asthma, COPD or cystic fibrosis and get ready for a manslaughter trial.
