Members of President Barack Obamas crack security staff like Colombian hookers a lot but they proved on Wednesday they are afraid of a few College Republicans.
At a recreation center at the University of Central Missouri, security personnel refused to admit 10 members of the College Republicans to a speech by the president on economic policy, The College Fix reports.
All 10 students reportedly had tickets to the event.
Staffers told Courtney Scott, the groups state treasurer, and the rest of the College Republicans that the decision somehow wasnt about the groups political views, but about the presidents security.
The problem seemed to be that some of the students were wearing shirts emblazoned with tea party slogans, Republican symbols and even patriotic motifs. They had also had done the protest thing earlier in the day with some signs. The group members said they had long put away their signs by the time they were at the gate for Obamas 5:30 p.m.
Nevertheless, the contingent of the Show-Me States College Republicans was prevented from seeing the president speak but not for their political views, you understand.
It just didnt make any sense, Scott told The Fix. A lot of us traveled several hours to watch the speech. We were very disappointed not to be able to attend.
Some 2,500 other people who were not deemed security threats were allowed to see Obamas latest speech about the perpetually sluggish economy.
The earlier protest had been part of a larger, completely standard demonstration in a public speech area on the Warrensburg campus. It was far enough from the rec center that no one waiting in line could see or hear it. Signs included messages endorsing capitalism and lamenting the growing problem of student-loan debt.
Nathan Harden of National Review Online has some advice for those kids the next time they want to attend an Obama speech:
“I’d like to offer a helpful tip to all College Republicans who hope to attend an Obama speech in the future: Odds of admission improve if you wear a Che Guevara t-shirt, an “I Heart Kim Jong Un” campaign button, and/or a ballcap displaying the slogan “Obama Girl” prominently above the brim.”
And don’t bathe.
Don’t forget the “hoodie”, Nathan.
They should be grateful, grateful, I say, that there weren’t labeled “enemies of the state”.
Of course, they probably were, just nobody actually said that.
Obama only speaks to young minds full of mush so if they didn’t fit that profile they were not let in.
“Profile”? Did I just use the word “profile”? Isn’t that a big deal for some reason? I can’t remember....
When leftists profile its always right!/s
der 0berFuhrer, Emperor Hussein 0bama, will not tolerate ANY DISSENTION!
I see. Does anybody know where I can find a good bridge for sale?
“but about the presidents security”
Several possible responses:
“You’re NOT Secret Service and security is NOT your job.”
“And what makes you qualified to dermine I’m a risk?”
“You’re right!” as you follow through with a round house to his jaw.
Of course, if the College Republicans were wearing tee-shirts with slogans, they might have hurt that thin-skinned poser's feelings.
I can’t believe the passivity of this thread.
There is NO justification for this, it’s a monstrous abrogation of their civil rights.
The screaming about this should be loud and endless.
Anyone who wants to walk in the mold of Karl Rove, Rex Reed and Grover Norquist are idiots and “Republican” ought not to be ascribed to them...
A shame that those allowed in, did not protest this travesty.
Obviously the dims want to appeal only to the “low info” voters.
They use the words “security threat” as an excuse. It is nothing more than denying them their rights.
They would not have to ban me.
