NEW HAVEN >> Activists are brainstorming on the next step in response to rocker Ted Nugents scheduled appearance in the city next month.
Were a city in mourning right now, longtime activist Barbara Fair said recently.
Nugent, after a Florida jury found George Zimmerman trial not guilty in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, was widely quoted as saying the slain youth was a dope-smoking, racist gangsta wannabe.
Activists are working to make it clear Nugent is not welcome in the city, Greta Boudreau said recently.
All of us who see Trayvon as our son and brother, when (Nugent) comes riding into town, we intend to ... let him know how we feel about the comments made about Trayvon, Fair said.
They are also concerned that Toads Place did not cancel Nugents Aug. 6 show.
Out of respect for people who are experiencing so much grief, we think that the business that is based in New Haven, that makes money on New Haven people, should not allow him to come here, Boudreau said.
Toads owner Brian Phelps said hes the venue guy.
Were just putting on a show, Phelps said.
Youve got a lot of artists that play here, some on the extreme right and some on the extreme left, and if you tell one side or the other, then youre actually hurting the other side, Phelps said earlier this week.
When asked to name an act on the other side politically, Phelps said, I dont want to get into that.
Toads seating depends on the show, Phelps said. It can accommodate about 750 people, he said.
Asked if the publicity surrounding the Nugent appearance has spurred sales, Phelps said, Im not sure of where the advance sales came from, but we do have advance sales, yeah.

I’m liking this fellow Brian Phelps. He sounds like a stand-up guy. No coward, that’s for sure.
I won’t be going, I’m seeing Black Sabbath in August. Can only afford so many shows and there won’t be any issues there.
All of us who see Trayvon as our son and brother,....”
This rabid attempt to portray Trayvon as a victim falls flat in the face of all of the evidence including the record of the child’s history.
Why the Sabbath got to be BLACK, yo?
“in mourning”, my azz

So refreshing to hear from the hurt feelings faction. All too often, they keep their precious feelings to themselves. It's good they're finally starting to express them, don't you think?
Bring your taser to the show :)
I don’t even like Ted but I hope these leftists get their butts kicked if they start something
Out of respect for people who are experiencing so much grief”
That is the biggest scam of all. There are about 5 people who feel real grief for Trayvon. The other 2 million are seeking a reason to riot and get some new stuff.
I’m jealous.
I don't even think that.
Are these Fascist bigots publicly threatening and conspiring to censor Ted and violate his civil rights?
Only time I caught Ted was at Hampton Coliseum in 79 or so; what i remember was him up on a speaker bank wearing a loincloth.
I had been diagnosed with Cat Scratch Fever a year or so earlier. For real- it’s in my med charts.
Little chance I would have guessed at that point we would intersect again on a different wavelength..
Well wango tango.those jerks.
as long as they agree with what you have to say and who you hang around with.
We got lawn seats, they were $80 cheaper. No, I’m not kidding. The prices these days are ridiculous but my wife missed the Reunion tour back in 2001 so it had to happen.
Just a reason to show their hate for whitey to people that aren’t afraid to speak the truth.
Cool, have a great time.
I’ve seen their two new videos...they still rock.
