We have a Citibank credit card. It has a feature called Virtual Account Numbers.
There is a little downloadable app, and using your name and a password, you can get an individual credit card number for each
transaction that you complete.
You can specify the dollar amount and the expiry date. Once your transaction goes through, if someone steals it, the charge will
not go through because the dollar amount will exceed what you specified.
We use virtual numbers for EVERY ONLINE PURCHASE AND DONATION.
We have had two incidents of someone trying to use our card illegally, and both times, it was a non issue because of the VANs.
Also, I believe that the CC companies are working on the VAN concept by loading it directly into their credit cards. So you’d
automatically have a VAN for every transaction without having to use the app for the numbers.
CC and ID thieves are mourning all over the world as we speak.
