DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. and NEW YORK (July 23, 2013) NASCAR and NBC Sports Group announced today they have reached a comprehensive agreement that grants NBCUniversal exclusive rights to the final 20 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, final 19 NASCAR Nationwide Series events, select NASCAR Regional & Touring Series events and other live content beginning in 2015. Financial terms of the agreement, which runs through the 2024 season, were not disclosed.
With this partnership, NBCs 20 Sprint Cup race schedule includes becoming the exclusive home to the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, NASCARs final 10 races of the season, including its season-ending championship event which will return to network television in 2015 for the first time since 2009. Of NBC Sports Groups 20 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events, seven will be carried on NBC annually, with 13 airing on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN). Four of NBC Sports Groups 19 NASCAR Nationwide Series races will air on NBC, with 15 airing on NBCSN.

In addition to rights to NASCAR Sprint Cup and NASCAR Nationwide Series races, NBC has also obtained exclusive rights to practice and qualifying sessions for NBCs national series events during their portion of the season, as well as rights to broadcast the NASCAR K&N Series, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, NASCAR Toyota (Mexico) Series, the NASCAR Hall of Fame induction ceremony and NASCARs season-ending banquets. Further, NBC has been granted Spanish-language rights, certain video-on-demand rights and exclusive TV Everywhere rights for its NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series events.
Acquiring the rights and bringing NASCAR back to NBC comes at an important point in time for NBC Sports Network, NBC, and all of our distributors and affiliates, said NBC Sports Group Chairman, Mark Lazarus. Of course he’ll still be on Fox. But being able to watch the 2nd half of the season (I don’t get TNT) without listening to him will be nice. He was my favorite driver for a long time, but I can’t stand him as an announcer. Maybe if he’d come up with something new .....

The NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) is a cable sports channel in the United States operated as a division of NBC Sports. It previously launched on July 1, 1995, as the Outdoor Life Network (OLN), which was dedicated to programming primarily involving fishing, hunting, outdoor adventure programs, and outdoor sports.
By the turn of the 21st century, OLN became better known for its extensive coverage of the Tour de France, but eventually began covering more “mainstream” sporting eventsresulting in its relaunch as Versus in September 2006.
Comcast, the original owner of Versus, acquired a majority stake in media company NBC Universal in 2011. As a result, Comcast merged the operations of its cable channels with those of NBC. In particular, it aligned the operation of its sports channels with NBC’s sports division, NBC Sports.
On January 2, 2012, Versus was re-branded as the NBC Sports Network to reflect these changes. As of March 18, 2013, the entirety of NBC Sports’ operations except for Football Night in America (which will remain at Studio 8G in Rockefeller Center), including the Network, is based out of facilities in Stamford, Connecticut. As of January, 2013, NBC Sports Network is in 77.9 million homes.
