Well, “non-campaigningPete C-NY” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
how bout grumpyCynic_without_a_home? That has a ring.
Ct dont deserve me and dont deserve the fine people in the state House that I sent up there!
I pray i get over it. I knew dis was a thankless task when I started.
Basically, as a liberal, he seemed to make common cause with the Democrats (and was probably quite happy to switch places with Tom Carper when the latter succeeded him as Governor, excluding a brief seat-warmer). He did next to nothing to bolster the standing of the GOP and was pretty clearly disinterested in trying to displace either Carper or Biden (let alone the succession of Dems in the Governorship ever since). I also suspected that his Senate “run” in 2010 was going to see him support the Democrat agenda in exchange for covert support (Coons, I alleged, to be a ringer for him), switch parties, and step down to allow Biden’s son to succeed him in the Senate. O’Donnell threw a wrench into those plans.
2, actually. Mississippi’s Jon Hinson died of AIDS, too. He became a gay activist in his latter years. Stewart McKinney was alleged to have contracted it in surgery, but it came out later that he was bisexual.
Given the number of senators who have expired in office lately (Inouye, Kennedy, Byrd, Launtenberg) or might have (Specter had he won another term, perhaps Lugar if he hadn’t been sacked in the primary, and Orrin Hatch and John McCain seem to be going for this, too), I think Castle might have been another lifer. The fact that he would run for Senate at 71 and after suffering two minor strokes back in 06 suggested he didn’t care he was way past his prime (not unlike Tommy Thompson in WI), he just saw what looked like an easy route to the Senate and took it. Odds are he’d have served until he came out with a toe tag.
With respect to Castle, that wasn’t the impression I got. I said I only believed he would serve part of the current term (with the Dems “allowing” him to serve it) and retire to have Biden, Jr. to succeed. I don’t believe Coons was considered a serious candidate until Castle went down (and now Biden, Jr. has nowhere to go unless he wants to wait for the now dead-end job of Governor or challenges one of the other Dems, which I’d be surprised if he does).
LMAO!!!
I’d have rather been a Grand Admiral myself.
Yeah Coons was a sac lamb, and that’s why you should always try to find the best candidate you can to run especially in states/districts that lean your way. If the rats had nominated some D-bag off the street rather than the boring and little known (despite holding a relatively high office (County Exec)) but perfectly credible Coons, they may not have won.
And O’Donnell only got 40% against him in a Republican year, so anyone on the train for the rematch needs to wake up, she’s not viable. And I say that as one of the first freepers to talk up her candidacy in 2010. I saw there was an attractive woman, a conservative running against one of the worst RINOs and I jumped right on the bandwagon with both feet.
Turned out to be a lose lose situation and now years later I find myself in the position of arguing against the people that have Palinized her, people that for the most part hadn’t heard of her yet when I first noticed her campaign, the irony is thick.
Unless of course you are a Democrat. Then you can rape, brutalize or harass women, bomb children’s milk factories and still get elected or re-elected. Just need that (D) after the name....
Blood transfusion, yeah right, or maybe he got it from a toilet sex. The other one, he’s the guy who favored African-American gentleman, I heard about that. But I didn’t know he became a radical activist and died of AIDS, gross.
Speaking of viral parasites, Castle, so basically it was like Bill Weld, but even worse since Weld was more than willing to take out Kerry. Piece of crap. I agree with Overlord he was gonna be carried out feet first. Not even Coons is stepping down for Jr. Biden or so it seems.
Delaware Republicans are waiting with anticipation of O’Donnell’s decision.
