Perhaps it’s because we have no icon in America that we can “exalt” for their (previous) status in the world. So what if it isn’t a “real” monarchy? Does that hurt the world? Or does it give people a little bit of “dream” to hang on to, when our own government is so shamefully treasonous?

I for one, choose to be happy for Great Britain and the Commonwealth because I know the people MUST have something solid to hang onto when their own country is being beset by terrorists, just as ours is.

The difference? We have no “royalty” to cling to. We have our guns and our religion and the rest of it looks pretty dismal.

So I will say again...the cup is half-full. And who can’t be excited by a birth?

I don’t understand the negativity towards these people. I do get how it would bore a lot of folks and the reasons behind us not wanting to have the Monarchy type of rule, and it all seems rather silly in the modern era but Will and Kate and the baby, etc. are born into this, it’s not as if they have crowned themselves. If you were born a Prince would you renounce your title? No. It would be your way of life and the way you’ve grown up accepting as the normal way of things. The whole thing imo is no different in how we promote celebrities and they live in huge houses and make craploads of money. Except for a lot of them are vulgar and don’t bother to “give back.” I would much rather idolize, have as role models, or whatever you want to call it, a seemingly nice young married couple who seem not at all arrogant or power hungry (unlike our rulers and a lot of celebs right now)
