A Select Committee will be a subset of the House. This means there will be a whole drawn-out partisan battle over who gets on it, just to start. This will take months. Votes. Then, the committee will decide from whom they will take testimony. There will be arguments on every single witness, with court battles. And votes. All of this in secret, by the way. Eventually we will get to the part we get to see on CSPAN. And nobody will watch.
A good Special Prosecutor would not be like Ken Starr. That was poorly done. A proper Special Prosecutor would actually track down the worst crime, and not be drawn up tiny tributaries. What happened here? Who knew? When? Then what did they do?
