As a person who lives in San Diego, I could have told you this was going to explode .. because as a Congressman, Filner said, “... I’m a Congressman, I can do whatever the hell I want”.
I suspect he was getting away with this behavior long before he became mayor .. but as a democrat - that’s a badge of honor.
Filner’s opponent was a gay person - and the “elites” here in SD banded together and shut him out of the election. I’ve known Carl since the late 80’s (where we worked together at the local RNC offices), and he never flaunted his “choice”; he always treated me with respect and was a very polite and articulate gentleman. His tenure on the City Council SAVED SAN DIEGO from bankruptcy - because he exposed the pension liability of CITY WORKERS. One such exposure was a city hall maid who earned minimum wage, was allowed to retire after only 5 years, and then received a pension for the rest of her life of (an estimated) $50,000 per year.
This is the same kind of garbage that happened in Detroit.
I’d rather taken my chances on Carl, than have to put up with the disgusting Filner.
