Should we be concerned about Jack Lew quietly raising debt ceiling $51 billion without a vote?

Just further propping up of Obama’s failed economic policies.

What ever happened to the stimulus and the resulting 200,000 jobs per month?

I think that the “standard set of extraordinary measures” refers to what they do to “officially” keep from breaching the debt ceiling while negotiations to raise it are ongoing. As I recall, this includes things such as “borrowing” money from the federal employees’ G Fund in their thrift saving plan. These are essentially paper transfers and accounting tricks. In the past, when a deal was reached raising the debt ceiling, these paper transfers were then reversed.

So, just think “accounting gimmicks”. Of course, if there’s only a limited amount of wiggle room afforded by these gimmicks. Once they would be exausted, then actual cuts in spending would have to follow.

Are you kidding? He is probably getting private Thank You calls from members of Congress. Anything to avoid having to go on-record with tough votes.

Without a vote? Are you kidding? This administration has already been doing that for 4½ years now. The rule of law is dead.

So what's new? This nation was gone the day the idiots elected the bastard. Don't begin to tell me that we live in a free country & if one thinks this they are delusional fools. BTW the Gastapol is just warming up.

When has the debt ceiling not been raised whenever it is approached? When has it ever prevented the debt from being increased? In what way is a “debt ceiling” that semi-automatically expands to allow any debt increase the institutional government party wishes an actual “ceiling” of any sort? The whole thing is meaningless.

Yeah, I have an idea that would help in this area:
Fiscal Responsibility Amendment
Section I
The power of Congress to regulate the value of the dollar is hereby repealed.

Section II
The value of the Dollar shall be one fifteen-hundredth avoirdupois ounce of gold of which impurities do not exceed one part per thousand.

Section III
To guard against Congress using its authority over weights and measures to bypass Section I, the weight in Section II is approximately 28.3495 grams (SI).

Section IV
The Secretary of the Treasury shall annually report the gold physically in its possession; this report shall be publicly available.

Section V
The power of the Congress to assume debt is hereby restricted: the congress shall assume no debt that shall cause the total obligations of the United States to exceed one hundred ten percent of the amount last reported by the Secretary of the Treasury.

Section VI
Any government agent, officer, judge, justice, employee, representative, or congressman causing gold to be confiscated from a private citizen shall be tried for theft and upon convection shall:
a. be removed from office (and fired, if an employee),
b. forfeit all pension and retirement benefits,
c. pay all legal costs, and
d. restore to the bereaved twice the amount in controversy.

Section VII
The federal government shall assume no obligation lacking funding, neither shall it lay such obligation on any of the several States, any subdivision thereof, or any place under the jurisdiction of the United States.

Section VIII
The federal government shall make all payments to its employees or the several states in physical gold.

Very much agreed, in posy 27 I layout a constitutional amendment that would change this.

Is every single R either on the bandwagon, heavily blackmailed, on heavy drugs or a eunuch scaredy cat?

It seems so.

Who knows?

We do know that SOMEONE has access to information about every phone call you have ever made and every website you have visited.

What could they do with that?

Re-education camps/gulags/ravines/killing fields.

Maybe after the show trials but probably not for the little guys; too many of us for show trials.

Congress will do nothing of the sort. They're a bunch of potted plants.

A very expensive bunch of potted plants.

Boehner said yesterday he doesn’t want to take any stands on the issues.

The GOP simply lets the administration do whatever it wants, and the Supreme Court rubber-stamps everything, if necessary.

Only one branch of government left now. A dictatorship in everything but name.

Congress moves slowly.

A Czar moves immediately.

A large swarm of Czars can easily overwhelm any resistance the Congress would try to impose.

The Communists have studied our system of checks and balances well. They have long planned for this moment, and have strategically co-oped our weakest points of defense.

just starting to figure this out?

there are laws that when ignored... have no legal consequence. this is what 0bama and crew are counting on.

don’t think so? what’s the legal ramifications to anyone in the executive branch if they do not enforce the border? nothing. no one goes to jail. no one gets fired. no one even gets fined... even if you could get someone to bring up the issue.

with that in mind, read the story again and ask what penalty is in place for breaching the law and just printing more money?
