"There are very few African American men in this country who havent had the experience of being followed when they were shopping in a department store. That includes me," Obama said. "And there are very few African American men who haven't had the experience of walking across the street and hearing the locks click on the doors of cars. That happens to me, at least before I was a senator."
That reminds me when we had to pick up a vehicle (I was working for a car rental company at the time) in a rough part of Pittsburgh, I locked the door to the car. The guy who I was with, he was driving, he said, "why you lock the doors?" I said, "I know you're a tough 6'5" Marine just back from Desert Storm, but me, I'm just a 5' 7.5" amateur radio geek, I'm locking the doors for protection." B-)

Being from the suburbs of Pittsburgh I would say you were very wise to lock your car door. I once got lost driving in an all black neighborhood and it was a very frightening experience. The hatred blacks have towards whites is palpable. You couldn’t pay me to go into that crime infested city unless I was very well armed.
