Was it an error? Flight computer was downloading some security updates and got the blue screen of death when they tried to reboot it. They called Microsoft Support in India and got put on hold for so long they were about to run out of fuel.

This kind of thing happens all the time, with every type of aircraft. I’ve been a passenger on a flight that did this once, and in my airline days I worked several flights where something similar happened.

The 787 was grounded earlier this year and there was an issue on a JAL flight out of Boston in one instance.
I was on a flight out of LAX in which the engine was on fire and the pilot returned after dumping fuel. One of “the quiet was deafening” moments.

If this keeps up, “If it ain’t Boeing, I ain’t going” is gonna become an archaic phrase.

Nah, the plane became self-aware 5 minutes into the flight, realized it was a 787, freaked out and generated the error message in a desperate attempt to save itself.

Look on the bright side, Captain Wii.
At least we didn't crash in Detroit.

I was on a jet landing at Wichita when the plane started making really loud screeching noises. I remember all the other passengers and I were looking at each other wondering what the heck was going on.
I later talked to a United Air pilot who must have been close to retirement. He said it was probably an air bearing (whatever that is), and that it was not really serious.
