Nothing to do with race - the family required some kind of copyright payment from the people who built the DC monument to MLK in DC. She may not be in on it, but in some fashion or other, the family definitely is.

As I understand it, the family makes a living off MLK memorabilia and all things related to MLK including speaking engagements, and so on. I don't begrudge them this source of income, but using the guy's name the way Disney might use Goofy or Mickey Mouse seems a bit tacky.
