You say he was lying, I say he was bluffing. Poker players bluff all the time.

No they don't.

"They’re allowed to lie."

There are situations in which cops can lie. One such situation is in an interview when a suspect thinks he has gotten away with a crime. A bluff "lie" has tripped up many suspects who really WOULD have gotten away with a crime.

"They’re encouraged to lie."

Al Sharpton, is that you?

"They’re rewarded for lying."

Poker players get rewarded for lying. I have seen officers fired for lying.
