Not surprised that this is happening. Most BSA councils, my former one included, live almost hand-to-mouth and rely heavily on regular donations as well as “special contributions” to maintain the physical plant (council camps, among other things).

The small $25-$50 donations from ordinary folks who were Scouts, or who currently have boys in Troops, are starting to dry up what with National’s decision to go gay. I’ve been approached twice since the announcement and have refused both times.

While the “choice” has assured that the big corporate donations will continue to roll in (at least for the time being), those won’t be enough to keep the operation solvent in the long-term.

Saving up for when they Philmont on the market.

Actually, I don't think so. I think the corporate donors who were pushing this will put their dollars behind some other initiative. By holding the carrot of corporate money out in front of the National leaders they got everything they wanted and by following that up by not delivering on promises they can't legally be held to they deliver the death blow.

I won't be surprised to see corporate funding of the Girl Scouts dry up as well now that the fascist crowd no longer see them as a useful example of corporate reliability to tantalize the Boy Scouts leadership with.
