Senate leaders struck a deal on Tuesday to avoid the nuclear option, as Republicans relented and allowed a series of President Barack Obamas stalled nominees to move forward toward confirmation.
As a sign of a break in the stalemate, Republicans allowed a vote Tuesday morning to advance the nomination of Richard Cordray to permanently lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, passing 71-29.
In exchange, Democrats backed off their threat to unilaterally change Senate rulesthe so-called nuclear optionto allow for presidential nominees to be confirmed by a simple majority vote, an historic rules change which Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., had been threatening for days.

Can’t get much weaker than that no change in the good old boy club yet.
Cowardly pukes. Where do I sign up for the new party.
What are we waiting for?
Harry Reid has Republicans in his pocket.
Who could have predicted that Republicans would cave again? This will mean more communists appointed to positions of authority.
Sort of like "You give me your wallet and, in exchange, I'll not crack this baseball bat over your head."
Rep Party boiler room $$ donation calls FORGET IT!!!
Cave? This is collaboration. The deceit is just too transparent nowadays.
Suppose for a second that in the 1950’s, our military was caught off guard somehow, and without a shot, Soviets and Chinese communists just rolled in and took over the Federal govt, and made wholesale changes to American society...
How might that be different than what we have today?
They’ve been sneaking in long before the 1950s.
Actually it is better than that. Reid gets to have his way on his candidates and keep the filibuster. He can than filibuster the republican nominees when they have the majority. It is a double win for Reid.
It is like taking candy from a baby.
I’m with you. Truth, be told.
None.
So they gave in to Rat blackmail (again), eh?
McCain cowardice on display once again.
I thought it was McCain collaboration, myself.
Okaaay, now WHAT other items will Reid bring up the nuclear option to scare rino repubs into allowing to go forward with NO debate... let alone filibuster. How G-D dumb are these idiots... they gave reid a mechanism for rubber stamp and threw away their responsibility to oppose, and move to stop what is Constitutionally wrong.
Brilliant move. The only answer is to put in full conservative senate and allow this rule to stand, and then ream them a new one— reverse everything— including obamacare.
