In the United States, many protest against the acquittal of the Hispanic killer of 17-year-old black teenager Trayvon Martin. Pravda.Ru asked Deputy Director of the Institute of the USA and Canada, Valery Garbuzov, to share his views on the problem.
"In the United States, there is phenomenon called "racism in reverse." Many used to believe that racism came from the white population against black Americans. But during the 1960s, black Americans were gradually winning their political, economic and civil rights. Today they have turned into quite a powerful social force. It is no surprise that black people appear in the political elite of the United States - they have a black president in the White House. Many blacks perceive the court's ruling to acquit Zimmerman as a kind of injustice - a kind of a protest with racial overtones.
"One should bear in mind the fact that all non-white population of the U.S. has become very active during the recent years. This manifests primarily during elections, especially presidential ones. Obama's election in 2008 and the last presidential election indicate that the part of the American electorate that was traditionally called the sleeping electorate, woke up and started to express their opinions on various issues, especially those related to them personally and perceived by them as an infringement of their own identity.
"This verdict sparked a social explosion and is seen as unfair. If the victim and the killer would have changed roles or skin color, the story would have been different - this is the way it is perceived by the general public. People question the decision of the jury and claim that the jury was guided by racial prejudice. I see the reaction of black Americans to the verdict precisely proceeding from these positions.
"One should also pay attention to the members of the jury. Perhaps, they also provoke such a reaction. If most of the jury were white citizens, such a reaction from blacks was predictable. A few years ago there was a similar case, a crime of this type, and the white jury justified the white offender, which also led to a surge of discontent."
Amen.
“We got rid of slavery
We got rid of Jim Crow
We put Affirmative Action in place
We funnelled hundreds of billions, if not trillions, into the black community as part of the Great Society (reparations)
We push diversity training in schools and in work places, glorifying Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, and the struggle
The pandering and reverse racism started right after doing away with the Jim Crow laws. After that, the field being made level, liberal America was merely assuaging its own white guilt, all the while continuing to act on its own, now sublimated, racist bent (the bigotry of low expectations). Blacks, on the other hand, were playing on all this with an insatiable sense of entitlement.
Jackpot! You hit on the head! The corrupt media formerly known as mainstream continues to report their liberal agenda and people keep paying for it.
Why do people continue to fund the liberal propaganda?
If you pay for cable tv, the liberal media gets their cut from a subscriber fee. It does not matter whether you watch them or not.
I have been cable tv free for a number of years and do not miss it.
Cut the cable tv and tell your cable provider you will be back when they offer a la carte programming.
Kinda like designer beetles to help combat the invasive, noxious weed problem.
Problems arise, though, when the noxious weed du jour in reduced and the designer beetle develops a taste for something else.
How about an apology, Pravda? How about reparations???
Blacks and Hispanics hate one another more than either hates whites. The reason is that they compete for the same niches in American society: the food stamp recipient niche, the teen single mother niche, the gang-banging hoodlum niche, the affirmative action (underqualified) student or employee niche, etc. No wonder there isn't much love lost between them.
If you're talking about Cubans, or immigrants from the middle or upper classes of South America, then yes, most have assimilated into American society.
If you're talking about Mexicans in our border region barrios and colonias, they absolutely have not.
“The majority of Latinos/Hipanics acclimated to our culture. There’s the difference.”
I don’t know; I’d grant that they are “more assimilated”, but people who live near large concentrations might beg to differ.
“Problems arise, though, when the noxious weed du jour in reduced and the designer beetle develops a taste for something else.”
Absolutely; the same libs are upset because these Hispanics have children...
In my experience blacks resent Hispanics while they hate whites; there is a difference. All of the freebies and affirmative action set them against each other, but they don’t have the history blacks and (some) whites had.
The success of Asian immigrants is also glaring counterevidence to the black claim that "white racism" (as opposed to their own culture) is what keeps them down. You'd think that all those evil white racists would keep Hindus and Koreans down too?
I agree to an extent; I don’t think urban blacks pay much mind to anything they don’t see in their immediate environment, but they viewed the Koreans as people who were successful exploiting blacks in particular. Blacks didn’t go out of the hood looking for Korean grocers; they were in the hood already (while no Korean residents were).
