Despite outrage, federal charges uncertain in Zimmerman case

Washington (CNN) -- In the emotional aftermath of the Trayvon Martin killing last year, Attorney General Eric Holder signaled the unlikelihood of filing federal hate crimes charges against admitted shooter George Zimmerman.

"For a federal hate crime we have to prove the highest standard in the law," Holder said in April 2012, 45 days after Zimmerman shot the African American teenager in what was depicted by civil rights groups as a racially motivated killing.

In words that now sound prescient, Holder described to reporters that day how "something that was reckless, that was negligent does not meet that standard."

"We have to show that there was specific intent to do the crime with requisite state of mind," he said.

I think the feds going down this road will really lay open the problems in the black community.... I don’t think they really want to do that.

That’s when he thought Zimmerman will be convicted. Now that this isn’t the case, he will do a 180 and his original statement will go into the memory hole.

We got to be careful not to get caught up in the argument here....these guys are not talking civil suit, they are talking “hate crime...criminal”. Any first year law student should be able to kill any case like that brought by the justice brothers. Maybe they will appoint Nelson to the federal bench and try the case in her court room.

Beyond the instant matter, these “thought crimes” are insidious and should never have made it into the criminal code.

Yes, it is becoming more and more obvious what the REAL problem is.

What is still uncertain, is to what extent this administration will use this and other events to further their dark agenda for America (no pun intended).

Were I Zimmerman, I’d say bring it. I’m going to sue the living hell out of everyone on my list. You want on?

>> “We have to show that there was specific intent to do the crime with requisite state of mind,”

And not only that, Z has constitutional protection against being tried twice for the same crime. Oh sure, it’s *theoretically possible* for DOJ to argue that “hate murder” and “murder” are two different crimes, but as I can hear O’Mara say... “...Really? REALLY?...”

DOJ will expel some ominous whispering threats of prosecution that stink to high heaven like cow farts, and then they’ll let the whole thing fade. There’s simply no there, there.

He would have to thwart the FBI report that concluded that the killing was NOT a hate crime. That sort of puts him in a corner.

They don’t need legal reasons (just like the State of Florida didn’t need them), but with their unlimited resources they can continue to harass Zimmerman and try to ruin him financially for their own political reasons, which we are seeing exposed today, and I’m betting that they will.

I just hear on Fox that the NAACP will come up with their own racist evidence against Zimmerman to help out the DOJ( Department Of Jokes )

despite outrage, federal charges uncertain?

who exactly is outraged? Lilberals? Race baiting agitators such as Sharpton? Why does the media, which allegedly gives us facts and news analysis, just assume that of course everyone is outraged at this verdict????

So, if Al Sharpton is outraged, then that means all of us are supposed to shocked at the verdict? All of us should want federal charges brought now because they didn’t get a guilty verdict in the criminal trial?

Not everyone is liberal, or look at everything through a prism that blacks can do no wrong, and are a grievance group for which we have to be mindful of the legacy of slavery and poverty and all that horseblank.

eric knew then the fbi investigation, which i am sure was specifically instructed to look as hard as hell to find it, didn’t find any evidence of it being a racial crime.

Racism ........ look no further than Holder and Obama for starters..... NAACP and the Black Congressional Caucus for finishers...
Obama is a blatant racist and Holder shoudld be impeached for the DOJ activities in Sanford Fla and his strong support of the New Black Panther Party... blatant racists.
Typical chip on shoulder attitude,,, oure ghetto in an Armani suit....scumbags
