Our modern day journalists do not understand freedom. It is something foreign to them. We cannot expect they will pass it on to our children. We the People can and it is our responsibility to do so.

I'm sure many of them do understand freedom and journalistic integrity, it's just that their bosses at CNN, Fox News, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. are all looking at the mighty dollar, and anything that is sensational and gets you ratings automatically gets you a lot of advertising bucks. If you are not turning a nice profit at any of those places for your bosses, you will be replaced. When keeping your job through sensationalism and ratings outweighs your professional responsibilities, something has to give.

As you or somebody else mentioned, Hearst understood this in the 1890s just as much as the networks understand it in the 2010s.

That's why if you were to look at the websites of CNN, Fox News, ABC News, NBC News, CBS News, right now, you would see that the top headlines are all about the Zimmerman case. I just looked at all of them, and all of them are playing up some angle of the Zimmerman trial.

Meanwhile, we have the IRS harassing American citizens, we have the NSA spying on American citizens, we have the White House trying to prop-up anti-American governments, etc. and nobody gives a damn in the media.

I know that much gets thrown out of our culture when the bottom line forgets our cultural heritage and the business model has become Yellow Journalism. It is time we reign in these economic hacks (who slept through their civics classes) back to the prime reason for the news: The reporting of the truth.
