“There is nothing more painful to me than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery, then to look around and see someone white and feel relieved.” ~ Jesse Jackson, 1993
Well, it is said that too many who stumble over the truth pick themselves up and keep on going as though nothing had happened. They are of a one with the “self esteem” mongers. We’re sinners in need of saving grace, not folks who only need to learn how to toot their own horns fortissimo no matter how pitifully out of tune and how obviously in need of repair and adjustment. (And yes this is mixed metaphors and whaddya gonna do about it style police?)
There is nothing more painful to me than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery, then to look around and see someone white and feel relieved. ~ Jesse Jackson, 1993
That’s it, thanks. And Jackson’s comments should be more relevant in the age of Obama, where poverty has increased to the highest levels and black youth unemployment is historically high as well.
Thank you for the quote. I was just going to dig it up when I saw yours.
