The death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy. Not just for his family, or for any one community, but for America. I know this case has elicited strong passions. And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher. But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son. And as we do, we should ask ourselves if were doing all we can to widen the circle of compassion and understanding in our own communities. We should ask ourselves if were doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis. We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this. As citizens, thats a job for all of us. Thats the way to honor Trayvon Martin.

The way to prevent incidents like this? Teach your children not to jump out of the bushes and start beating people.
That was impressive, Mike.
And that didn’t make into the trial, which is why all the progs keep referring to TM as an innocent child. Also good to put this in perspective when recalling Obama’s own words “If I had a son he would look like Trayvon”.
Good post!
Bump.....
The “tide of gun violence...”
What? You mean self defense?
Actually I’m surprised at Obama’s relatively mild comment. I expected him to get in front of the teleprompter and deliver a race-baiting comment directed solely at black people, telling them that it’s their duty to be outraged because now their children are in danger from armed, predatory “white” people like Zimmerman. Because that’s what community organizers do. Aside from the veiled reference to gun control, he actually pulled that one off with a touch of class.
The great orator could only release a statement ????
Don't be too impressed with him. As usual he says one thing and does another.
Thank GOD and grayhound that he's gone.
