Yes -— wickedness. Or, as they say, “Pride”.
I venture that C. S. Lewis nailed it well when he said that pride was what other sins, other vices come from. Pride was why Eve, then Adam, fancied themselves capable of living rather than dying in a world where they were their own personal mainstays and umpires rather than doing what they had done before, which is listen to the voice of God and carry on as He wanted. But the choice to hate God was made possible because we could not be lovers, only robots or puppets, otherwise. It’s a deep subject and one that can only be truly appreciated in the context of undergoing salvation after having been embroiled in rebellion and its blindness. All the theology in the world means little without actually walking it, as I have begun to.
Basically, I’m not immune to acting in pride and neither is anybody else on this globe, because we’re now sinners all needing saving grace to the end.
