"We are outraged and heartbroken over today's verdict," NAACP President Benjamin Jealous said in a statement.
"We will pursue civil rights charges with the Department of Justice, we will continue to fight for the removal of Stand Your Ground laws in every state, and we will not rest until racial profiling in all its forms is outlawed," Jealous said.
A civil rights probe had previously been opened by the Department of Justice and a spokeswoman said the department would continue to "evaluate the evidence generated during the federal investigation, as well as the evidence and testimony from the state trial."

“Outraged” because their racist agenda took a big hit.
Tough toenails, losers.
From The Daily Caller article on the petition’s words..
The most fundamental of civil rights the right to life was violated the night George Zimmerman stalked and then took the life of Trayvon Martin, the NAACP wrote. We ask that the Department of Justice file civil rights charges against Mr. Zimmerman for this egregious violation.
I think this administration has already spoken on “right to life”
Yup, I (and probably many others) called this. It’s just like the officers that apprehended Rodney King. Found not guilty, so the feds arbitrarily prosecute them on bogus civil rights charges.

Zimmerman could still be held responsible for Martin’s death

The NAACP is pushing the U.S. Department of Justice to file a civil rights suit.
The Rev. Jesse Jackson told CNN’s “New Day” on Sunday that his Rainbow PUSH Coalition also wants the Justice Department to look into possible civil rights violations in the case.
The FBI already investigated this case. They don’t have any more than the state does. I just hope The contents of Martin’s phone get out to the public. We already know he was caught with stolen jewelry. The feds have to know the stink around this mess of a case. Do that want that on them too?
Stand your ground was not invoked in this trial. And if you want racial profiling ending, work to try and halt so many black males from acting like thugs and criminals - you know, the way Trayvon was acting in the months leading up to his death.
Ben Jealous? There is no civil rights case to follow up. The criminal case result was not guilty. What civil rights abuse happened as Z was being pummeled and his head bashed on concrete and he defended himself?
If the NAACP wants to find a ruling that a person is not legally allowed to defend themselves then they could make an argument of sorts. This is ridiculous And of course the pursuit of it is in pursuit of money from libs and others.
Right to Life. Really? Those three words make liberals go crazy. Oh, the irony. The race hustling operators took a big hit last night. Time for America to move on.
“Stand your ground law”, or not...threaten me or mine and you’re dead meat.
They’re going to call me racist anyway, so there’s nothing to lose but my life if I do nothing.
The first and most difficult hurdle for Zimmerman is over. But this is a marathon, and the trial was just the first steps. They are going to be relentless and hound Zimmerman and his family are completely destroyed,,,or dead. DU’ers are calling for Zimmerman to be gunned down in the street. This will never end for Zimmerman. Thats why he should just say eff it and leave the country.
“....we will continue to fight for the removal of Stand Your Ground laws in every state....”
.
Changing it into Cower And Run laws instead?
My right to self defense is not restricted by the color of my attacker. FU NAACP
These people are beyond stupid.
Where is the NAAWP when you need them.
Obama’s trinity church is holding a seance to allow Trayvon to speak about the trial outcome.
Agreed.
