As in my 171, I don’t care anymore.

It’s not as if I have animosity toward blacks. I live and work in Alabama, and I live and work around and with black people—I have my whole live.

I was born when Jim Crow was law down here but was only 7 years old in 1965 when the Voting Rights Act became law. I’ve heard older white people cuss and spit and use the word N-—R when discussing blacks, but most—no, they never did.

I felt for the plight of a black man who wanted to be a man and simply left alone and not be harassed due to his color. Martin Luther King, whose Dexter Avenue Baptist Church is only a few miles from where I sit, said it best when he said he longed for the day when we’ll be judged by the content of our character, not by the color of our skin.

But now those days are olden days, historic yes but decades past, and where are we now? I try hard to see signs of discrimination from my own race towards theirs but I just don’t see it.

THEY say the legacy still lives on and the proof is their poverty. I see lots of poverty—black and white. I also see rich blacks and whites. What is the difference?

I see hard work and dedication, a desire to learn and become educated as being the biggest factor by far. If it was not so, I would not know many a person black or white who came from nothing and now are men and women of means.

So when you tell me that any continued poverty and ignorance—hard times—are still my fault because of my race toward yours...

I laugh out loud.

It’s simply not true.

And I have as much right to say so as you do to say it’s not so, and my saying so doesn’t make me a racist.

Holder said we are cowards to not discuss the racial problems in this country. Well, I’m no coward, but I believe he wouldn’t agree with what I say what exactly is the problem. It ain’t me, Eric. Go look in the mirror.

Some say it’s a black thing and I wouldn’t understand. I laugh at that, too. How victimizingly pompous.
[=======================

I agree wholeheartedly; not sure how you think in what I posted I was calling you racist. It is an overused, hackneyed word these days.
