I’m sorry, but a big reason kids are so damn out of control is because “some” think it was more enlightened to not give them clear guidance and instead continue to give them grey area outs for poor behavior.

In fact the context of the Texas kid's comment was that someone else had jokingly made the comment that he was mentally deranged. And so he replied something to the effect of "Yeah, I'm so mentally deranged, I'm going to go do x. /joking".

There is nothing about that conversation that justifies putting a juvenile in detention for 3 months. It was clear from both the context of the thread and the /joking tag that he put on his own comment that he wasn't really making a threat to do anything. It was just a sarcastic response to a friend and appropriately labeled as such.
