If the prosecution brings in the statements of the defendant as part of their case, then the defendant can use those same statements to prove his innocence. In essence the defendant gets to testify without taking the stand.

Do you agree with my statement that the prosecutor's behavior in that regard made things much easier for GZ than they would have been if he'd faced a prosecutor who was trying to be effective and knew how to do it?

The prosecution had no case. All they had was smoke and mirrors. Their problem was not that they were stupid or inept, their problem was that they were and are corrupt.
