“I guess I’m just annoyed that the jury would be all women in the first place. That’s certainly not relative to the population. I wonder why both sides apparently preferred female jurors?”
If you are referring to ‘jury of his peers’, I do not believe that it is actually law.
The very first time I heard that was in the OJ trial, although it is written in one of the founding documents.
I was sitting in on jury selection once in federal court and another judge came in and sat down beside me (yea, it was weird because they don’t do that), he was plain clothes and so most didn’t recognize him. I was still in college and didn’t know any better so I leaned over to him and asked why they kept this one woman, but not this man....b/c they seemed to be equal as far as their station in life, age, etc. He said they like women b/c they tend to be less involved in current events and not up on the news... Not well informed... but they’ll boot a strong woman, or an educated one fast. He said strong women are more persuasive than even strong men and they’re too risky for either side.
Just a little tidbit I thought I’d pass along. I’m not a jury expert and NEVER get picked...as hard as I try... they NEVER pick me...
