Heck, here in New York, on Long Island, there have been calls for Nassau and Suffolk Counties to separate from New York State as well.
Suffolk County comptroller and former state assemblyman Joseph Sawicki (a Republican) has called for a separation of Long Island from the rest of the state, saying that the region, one of the wealthiest in the state, receives only $5.2 billion in state payments and pays $8.1 billion in taxes to the state.
Nassau County executive Ed Mangano came out in support of such a proposal in April 2010 and will be commissioning a study on it.
Long Island even has a movement pushing for secession of the entire geographic island (Kings, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties) from the United States.

Thanks for the info. It’s good to see L.I. is serious enough to do something about it. I’m surprised to see Brooklyn and Queens in that mix.
I believe upstate NY feels the same. No way did the good people of NY want the 2nd generation ‘Cuomo’ nor carpetbagger clinton. remember when she got booed when she spoke and the firemen booed her and then it was edited out of the video. I’m convinced there is massive voter fraud.
I live in Upstate, and nothing would help the region West of the Hudson more than being separated from NY City and its control via Albany.
Yes, I have heard the arguments that NY City tax revenues somewhat disproportionately go to Upstate I think its a very surface argument. What about subsidized power from Niagara Falls going downstate? What about the job-killing mandates possibly suitable for NY City, but unworkable in Upstate?
First Northern Colorado then...
Southern California quickly seceeds, followed by Southern New Jersey, Northwestern Florida, Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon. The latter two then merge to form Cascadia.
Long ignored by Annapolis and Baltimore, Eastern Maryland joins with the lower two counties, Kent and Sussex, of Delaware. The upper county, New Castle, rejoins Pennsylvania. However this proves too much for the rest of Pennsylvania and it splits into three states, Pittsburghia and Scrantonia, while leaving a Philadelphia-Wilmington-Camden ameoba of degeneracy and illiteracy to fail for itself.
Long Island then leaves New York State, which prompts everything north of Rockland County to go it alone, save for the People’s Republic of Ithaca, which remains an oblast of New York City.
