Microsoft has collaborated closely with US intelligence services to allow users' communications to be intercepted, including helping the National Security Agency to circumvent the company's own encryption, according to top-secret documents obtained by the Guardian.

Guess none of this should surprise us, but there were some things in the article that I did not have a clue about.
It does explain why my local ISP converted us over to Google Apps and the cloud. They were basically forced to.
I am going to invest in a typewriter business
i see an upsurge in the need for them coming
This probably violates their privacy agreements
Typewriters, privacy envelopes, and never use return addresses. They can catalog all they want, but they won’t have a proper understanding of to-from without connecting the dots, which is something the FedGov seems to be chronically bad at doing.
I am sure it does.
Well, it looks like we all need to have our own non-standard encryption software for anything we put “in the cloud”. (And just for fun, put some large files of random bits in the cloud so the NSA can waste computational resources trying to decrypt them.)
Have read the Russians are already doing that, reverting to typewriters.
Remember it was not that long ago that the military abandoned mechanical encripters. The reason for the delay was the electronic equivalent emitted plain text input nearby. Security hole.
I would like very much to find a reliable email server system.
I have nothing that warrants encryption, but I would like to be able to use my normal mail client again.
And now these revelations of spying on every citizen and perhaps every human being on the planet, the end of constitutional rights and American privacy, Cusack said. These are not subtle facts. And yet what we hear about from the press is the alleged character defects of the whistleblowers. Thats the oldest bait and switch in the book. We have to say that were not morons.
John Cusack gets it. It seems simple to me. Big Sis will be replaced with a clone. Industry will continue to kowtow to their bureaucratic enablers. The man on the street won’t notice anything because the government will allow him to post pictures of his privates, laugh at cute kitty photos and obsess over their music and celebrities. The ladies will have their gossip.
They lied and the government lied. Big surprise.
Collabsuite is a GREAT program for Linux. Hedwig isn’t bad but it’s a little bland. When in doubt, install Sendmail.
You have to be hosting your own DNS or know how to manipulate your publicly-hosted domain to ensure creation of your MX records, but it’s very much a possibility to be your own email host and to do it with SSL encryption.
I’d like to know how much taxpayer money Microsoft was paid to provide this “service?”
Make a system that can encrypt messages into the pixels of cute cat meme pictures....
No cash payment, just a wink and a nod at Microsoft’s monopolistic practices....
Did Microsoft really have a choice?!
Old trick - adding two or files together, one of which is a graphic picture. The embedded files are encrypted but all casual recipients see is the graphic picture.
Is there any software package we can use that is NOT monitored or spied upon by Obama and his cronies?
There is little that is not monitored. I don’t really have a problem with that, EXCEPT when Commies use the system to punish any who oppose their oppression. That is where we are.
