Jury passes out note: we want to quit for the night now, come back tomorrow at 9a. Judge: I’m gonna let em.
To: LibertyOh
Jury is about to be dismissed til 9 am tomorrow. They need enough time to go over the evidence list they just requested. Let’s hope they take all the time they need.

My total guess is they want to sleep on whatever it is that they decided and come back fresh in the AM to confirm their leaning. They would not adjourn this early otherwise.

This is gonna get ugly.
Agreed.
And it'll happen faster than anyone expects/anticipates. With Rodney King people were spun up to the point of riot by watching leaders like Maxine Waters on TV yelling "No Justice, No Peace", talking to others face-to-face in their neighborhoods and maybe by phone.
We live in the smart-phone-driven Flash-Mob era. The Sanford police may be saying that everything is calm ... but they probably only have a limited view of what's up on the surface and visible. Sort of like seeing an iceberg. That's why, if there's an acquittal, we may see more widespread rioting than in 1992 - the communications mechanisms now are much better at facilitating it.

The “crying” report was from an AP reporter, others have noted that the juror had rubbed her eyes a number of times throughout the trial. I call media wishful thinking.

Going to get things set up for protection?

they are at an impasse ...see no way to break it
start over tomorrow
To: maggief
Probably. Had that happen in my town a few years back. Large bunch of purported local residents upset over a racial issue. Halfway through the Council meeting, it occurred to me I'd never seen any of these dudes. Followed them out after the meeting, around the corner, and to their charter bus.

Outrageous its only 6 pm. They should be ashamed.I'm going out on a limb--suspect there is at least one juror who is frazzled and incapable of coherent discussion at this point. For the sanity of the rest of the jurors, they are taking a break for the night.

Oh Ok thanks for the clarification, when I heard that story about the juror I figured she would be the problem juror but maybe they are all just tired..obviously they don’t all agree otherwise they would have issued a verdict today

Goin’ home for the night.

I was foreman on a jury where we tried two yutes at the same time for car theft. The story was actually quite comical. Owner’s car breaks down, he leaves to go get help. Two other dude’s come along and take the car. Cops literally followed a trail of oil about 5 miles to where the car was found. Was obvious both were guilty, but we only convicted one and acquitted the other. The one we convicted lived where in the house where the car was found and was stripping it when the cops showed up. The other one was lucky enough to be inside the home. We felt the state just didn’t prove its case for the one we acquitted.
So, juries do listen to what the law is and get that the state must prove its case. I sure hope this is what happens with this jury too.
