I suppose it isn’t any worse than FDR sending them Joe Kennedy, although in that case the Ambassador didn’t matter because Roosevelt and Churchill communicated directly.

I thought it was FDR sending a veiled, but intentional insult to the Brits?

Then again, it back-fired when the Kennedys' started singing the praises of Adolph Hitler.

Kennedy was a very vocal Hitler and Nazi supporter. Churchill sent a message to FDR that if he didn’t remove Kennedy Churchill would have him killed.
