The Movie Reviews

"Dark Skies"

With Keri Russell, Dakota Goyo, J.K. Simmons, Josh Hamilton, Annie Thurman, Trevor St. John,
Michael Patrick McGill, Ron Ostrow, Myndy Crist, Judith Moreland

2013, Rated PG-13 for violence, terror, and sexual content, 95 minutes

A couple (Russell and Hamilton) with two children experience what seems to be pranks in their
house in the night. The kitchen is raided and a mess left one night, and all the canned goods are
arranged in a strange sculpture the next. Their two sons talk of "The Sandman" who comes to visit
them. The parents seek help, but they definitely do not like what they here from a pro (Simmons)
about the nature of the problem and how to solve it. There was a long, boring build-up before we
found out what was going on, so it didn't make a high-star rating.
  ★★★

"The Numbers Station"

With Malin Akerman, John Cusack, Liam Cunningham, Hannah Murray, Lucy Griffiths, Bryan
Dick, Richard Brake, Joey Ansah

A burning out black ops agent (Cusack) gets an "easier" assignment, being a body guard for a
woman (Akerman) who sends messages coded in numbers. But their secret station is somehow
compromised, and deadly messages are sent by subversives. They must somehow stop the
messages and stay alive. It was an interesting story, but not so riveting as it could have been.
  ★★★
