Not only that, we’ve had countless examples of money poured down the green rat hole, and when it’s made public, half the public defends it because it’s “for the environment”, and the other half yawns.
So you have a large but ill defined market sector with a huge funding source, no requirement to actually succeed, and a public that’s happy to keep it going because it’s “for the environment”. Why wouldn’t the Mafia get a piece of that?
Besides, the Mafia have a long history of involvement in environmental causes.
