In their press releases to the biz news sources, they cited the fact that when a new relase comes out, there is a rush of sales and then sales drops off until a new release comes forth. So the “cloud” version of PS is to smooth out those monthly cash in-flows.

So they keep coming out with new releases to keep sales pumping. And have over designed PS to most non commercial artists/user's needs. Nothing ever gets removed from features. The program is HUGE and a RAM hog as a result. And no one will spend $600 just to get the new tool that straightens horizons (etc)

Agreed, Lightroom and /or Essentials will do the trick for most hobbyists - serious photgs or otherwise.

Me? I am hanging on to CS5 until something dramatically better comes along. In the mean time, all my raw files are in DNG format which will allow me such a move from Adobe (should that be the case)

I just upgraded to CS6 earlier this year. That’s it for me. CS6 and LR are plenty capable enough for my post processing needs.

Does anyone remember when Microsoft suckered folks in with a 'subscription' for their OS. I can't remember which release it was. but they claimed something like 3 or 4 years of 'upgrades' included with the price. Then they proceeded not to not release any new versions for quite a while.

SUCKERS!

I'm all Linux. Don't actually pay for any of my software, though I have in the past when it made sense to me.
