It is actually less than that. Many tax payers work either directly for the government (All Federal, state and local workers) or indirectly (People who work for government contractors).

There are 130 Million people, out of 310 million, are in the labor force, only 100 million are part of the private sector. 30% of the American public actually supports the other 69%. Some are children, some are retirees on government pensions or Social Security, many are unemployed, underemployed, never employed or unemployable, and more than 10% work directly for a government entity.

Thanks for the breakdown. That’s even more alarming, given the financial instability of the federal government and the oppressive actions against the private sector to foot the bill.
