It’s about buying votes, not feeding people. I’ve looked at the obituaries in the newspaper in my little city. In decades, I have never seen one “starved to death” listed as the cause of death. The Democrats use food stamps to buy votes. It’s just replacement income. If you receive $350 a month from the government for food, then you have $350 a month more disposable income. You can lease a nice BMW for $350 a month.

Ageed. We are past the tipping point. I don’t see much hope for the side saying: vote for me, I promise to do less for you. But it will be for your own good, trust me..

Future looks bleak for this country. I will Still fight the good fight, but I have realistic expectations.

Why should we subsidize those too lazy or stupid to learn to cook?

They won't. And I wouldn't vote to stop it at this time either.

When the American Economy has jobs again, many of these people will seek employment and will automatically stop their own gravy train when they return to work. They are not all deadbeats. Most are good people who are simply trying to survive in the worst economy since the Great Depression.

And when and if we muster the political will to raise the import tariffs and rebuild the American economy, some will return to work. Other's may need some intervention to get them to return to help overcome the depression that sets in after being unemployed too long, and from the financial devastation. It doesn't make sense to spend money on intervention right now, because their are no jobs.

Well, you convinced me. Thanks!

A family of four with an annual income of $32,000 will get just over $200/month, or $50/person/month or $1.67/person/day. I know this because I just went through a family’s forms as a guardian. This is federal SNAP, not state which might be different.

There are lots of nutrition problems among elderly people; don’t fool yourself. Calories & carbs <> good nutrition.

“It’s about buying votes, not feeding people”

And getting political donations.
Soft drink and snack manufacturers are being subsidized.

Oh, AND getting good press.
About 10% of food stamp money goes to media advertising.

It’s a monster.

Really you need to take into accounts deductions they make from the gross income for the benefit calculation but I don’t know how to do that. But I do know this family went in with a top line of $32,000 and came out with just over $200 food benefits per month.
