Boehner’s Dilemma
The Hill | July 2,2013 | Dick Morris

Posted on 07/08/2013 8:58:33 AM PDT by Hojczyk

But here, Boehner runs into a vicious circle: The more Democratic votes he needs, the more he will have to move the legislation to the left. And the more he does that, the fewer Republican votes he will attract. Eventually, he might be left with the Senate version of immigration reform, which makes a mockery of border security by throwing resources at the problem but requiring no solution before legalization begins.

Boehner’s reassurance that he will not bring a bill to the floor without a majority of his own caucus behind it offers no consolation. A majority of the House Republicans would likely support such a compromise, leaving more than a third of the party behind. A Senate-like bill would sail through the conference committee and get Obama’s signature in a heartbeat. It just won’t solve the immigration problem.

If the president wanted to seal the border, he has adequate resources to do so now. He just doesn’t want to do so. He would like the flow of illegal immigrants into the U.S. to continue, secure in the expectation that each new shipment assures liberal Democratic victories as far as the eye can see.

Only legislation that requires border security before Obama can deliver legalization to his Latino constituency will impel the reluctant president to act. But defections from the extreme right of the Republican caucus may make it impossible to pass such a bill in the House.

Only chance to stop the Amnesty bill is for the House not to consider any immigration related bill at all.

Michelle Bachman explained it. ANY House bill no matter if it promises all the border security in the world will be a trojan horse.NO bill at all must come out of the House because it will be merged with the Senate Amnesty and trojan horse bill. Call congress.

Tell them to stop all Amnesty or immigration bills.they are all trojan horse bills. some will promise border security that will never be enforced anyway.

Bachmann explained it . The House will write a border security bill only . then in conference the senate will add the virus and then bring it back to the house. then the conservatives won’t vote for it but democrats will all vote for it so then they only need 10% of republicans to pass Amnesty and the virus that will destroy America. so any bill at all will be added the virus . so best thing is for Boner to not let any immigration bill at all come out of the House. that is the only hope . call boner and the members of the House.

Tom Tancredo echos what Michelle Bachmann said.

call congress . no bill at all from the House

and of course boner must not bring the Senate bill for the House to vote on. no senate bill, no border security bill from the House .nothing.

If Boehner were truly conservative in his views and actions he wouldn’t have a dilemma.

Boehner and GOP have given ALL the yoke of ObamaCARE,
and the rest, and the open borders, and weaponizing
terrorists (even TODAY) because they are nothing
but twins of the corrupt Democrats.

Simple solution, just put a border security and enforcement bill up for a vote and leave the immigration reform for the next session of congress.

The word from my GOP congressman who blows a lot of conservative smoke and has voted with the faction of around 70 or less like Bachmann, Gohmert etc. is that they will try to chop the bill up.

They will vote on a visa overstay bill, a border fence or security bill etc. etc.

The move will be to have separate bills come out one at a time for narrowly defined issues.

Dear John: Why even let it come up for a vote at all. Pull a Harry Reed an refuse to allow it to come up for a vote until the senate allows every bill sitting in there IN baskets to be voted on. End of problem all that is required is for John to have some stones>>>>

You’re right.

My congressman is saying they plan to have separate bills move through the House to see if one of them will pass.

A border security bill, visa overstay bill etc. etc.

You have got the problem down.
Many here choose to make believe that the house GOP wont try their own bill. But they apparently do have one in the works.

But say its like VAMA and that farm bill and plan B tax extension bill, a GOP immigration bill (????) gets no Dems votes and enough conservatives bolt to bring it down.

Then we can trust that Bohner will just walk away from the issue, unlike those other two where he just put up the Senate bills? (Farm bill is still unresolved)

Senate bill is an atrocity. Ryan and the house amnesty team wont even discuss it as discussion would dirty their own version.

Present the Senate bill for a vote. It will fail. Do not even attempt to concoct some half-ass "compromise." Just let it die.

Why is this so difficult?

Somebody, Cruz maybe, had given Boehner a way out - since the Senate bill includes taxes, it’s un-Constitutional, and can be sent back without House consideration.
