Well slap my knee, how about that.

Let me guess, GE will be building such plants and use GE turbines?

But Obama knows that the polluted air over Africa will stay there. It will not move around the earth.

Obama is one stupid CS’er.

Anybody can burn coal without impact on “global warming”.

The coal is converted into a combustible gaseous mixture, by using some well-developed technology, called the gasification reaction. The coal is first sent through the coking process, boiling off all the volatiles, which are collected and condensed into various fractions ranging from methane to coal tar. The remaining residue, coke, is almost pure carbon.

The coke is heated to incandescence, about 1,900 degrees F., and an injection of steam is directed into the glowing embers. The reaction is C + H2O -—> CO + H2, carbon MONOXIDE and free hydrogen, commonly called “syngas”, which has about 50% of energy content of hydrocarbon fuels. This is the process used in producing “clean-coal”. The process of making coke out of the coal has (or should have) removed the sulfur and heavy metal content, so these should not be considerations for stack emissions.

Regardless of certain legal judgments, CARBON DIOXIDE IS NOT A POLLUTANT, and anyone who contends that is, either is woefully uninformed, or a charlatan.

Or both, as in the instance of Al Gore.

The fact is, we already have the technology, and for engineers acquainted with the process, no mystery. But engineers have NOT been consulted on the application of this technology. This has been a political determination all along.

With newer technology, is coal STILL a “dirty” fuel?
