Tropical Storm Chantal has formed in the North Atlantic. If the storm can survive wind shear and interaction with the mountains of Hispaniola, it may eventually become a threat to the U.S.

Early watch...with plenty of opportunity for this storm to fizzle.

when I read “North Atlantic”, I thought of Nova Scotia! Had no idea that part of the Atlantic was referred to that way—learn something new here every day....

Not to change the subject but, I hate that PR commercial from NJ, that says We are stronger than the storm.
Seems like they are temping fate with comments like that.

“Chantal?” She'll never make here. Will probably stop at Hispaniola for a weave and a couple of bottles of pineapple rum.

If a tropical storm was in the South Atlantic:
1. It would be called a tropical cyclone;
2. It would rotate clockwise, rather than counter-clockwise;
3. I wouldn't post a storm thread.

The only thing that worries me about early predictions is that they are notirously off,even 50-75 miles makes a huge difference for us in the Upper Keys.

The wife and I were offered a trip to the Bahamas for the weekend of July 14 but I passed. Had a bad feeling about hurricane season.
Looks like I might have been right!
