Labrador is one of those Congressmen that I didn’t expect a lot from who has really stepped up. Anyone who knocks Brooks down a peg deserves a medal in my book. He and Frum are just gateway drugs to liberalism.

You may be right, but a path to citizenship is not in itself a bad thing. However, the path should be the same path everyone else has to take to get there. Application to the State Department for visa, (genuine) green card, education into the US system of governance, proof of ability to support self and any family, and passing a test. No short cuts.

That path begins in their home countries. And since the vast majority of these lawbreakers have committed multiple crimes beyond just entering illegally, e.g., working illegally, ID theft, misuse of SSNs, tax evasion, etc., shouldn't that rule them out of ever being on a path to citizenship? Most of them wouldn't even qualify for a tourist visa. Are these the kinds of people we want as citizens? These are people who willfully and knowingly broke our laws.

Labrador is an amnesty supporter. He is worse than Brooks because he can actually has a vote on immigration reform. This good cop, bad cop routine is not playing very well among those of us who are informed about the issue.

David Brooks is like a lost little puppy. He dislikes Bush, but now has signed on to Bush’s grand immigration plan because he has now taken on the conservative base. He’s just a dummkoph who cannot think for himself. He just follows the left’s lead time after time.

Labrador helped push this monstrosity forward politically. Even though he finally found his situation politically untenable in ID 1 and backed out, he is responsible. No way this guy would get my vote if I still lived in ID.

Ehh. I always get sucked into these “smackdown” things and they’re never as good as advertised.
That Democrat scumbag Brooks mentioned how the new laws will reduce immigration far more than the old laws ever did - - and all Labrador had to do to respond effectively was laugh that the argument was absurd because the “old laws have never been enforced and neither will the new laws”.

All the (so-called) immigration reform proposals I've seen are as much smoke-and-mirrors as ObamaCare.

Secure the border first, make sure it is working, and then you may talk about some kind of reform.

Labrador is an amnesty supporter.

Yep. And an immigration lawyer by trade, if memory serves.

I honestly don’t know a whole lot about Labrador but as long as he is opposing the Senate bill and doesn’t end up supporting an equally bad bill I’ll reserve judgment. Also at least he acknowledges the Senate bill does not secure the border. If the House tries to push this bill through they will be sacrificing any chance of gains in 2014.

We need to set up a fund - or get a law passed - so a few hundred of the illegals can stay in a home next to where David Brooks lives...

No reason not to share the opportunity to be magnanimous with David Brooks and his friends, right?

Spend some tax dollars buying homes for illegals near reporters and congress people backing this bill - they want them here - fine - they can have a cross section - not just the gardeners and servant classes, but the gangbangers too...

Yeah, but, so what?

David Brooks isn’t the one passing attempting to pass traitorous legislation.

I don’t see any republicans smacking down democrats over their plan to yank the rug out from under citizens of America.

What I see is republicans helping them.

I was in CBP secondary inspection getting my bags checked in Philly a few days ago. I had a front row seat waiting for nearly 2 hours and overhead unbelievable cock and bull stories. The dog ate my home work type stuff. Outrageously, EVERY single person was admitted no matter how ridiculous the story was. We already have amnesty and nothing will change with the kenyan in the WH.

You and I are probably on the same page, but to be clear . . . . In my view, “the same path” means to wait in line in your home country until you receive a legal entry visa. That means those who have taken “cuts” on the line need first to return home to put this entire game on a level playing field.

To say nothing of the fact that this entire approach of “helping” the illegals gives an unfair advantage to Mexicans, by virtue of the proximity of their country of origin. It is grossly unfair to people trying to immigrate legally from such distant points as the Philippines, Poland, etc.

I am getting the feeling that we are watching some Kabuki theater. Like Rubio, Labrador claims we need to strengthen the bill with more border security and internal enforcement. I suspect we may see the House version of the Corker-Hoeven amendment that will give the House Reps the cover to vote for an amnesty and increased guest worker program.

The House Judiciary Committee has already passed a STEM bill to increase the number of permanent immigrant visas by 55,000 a year.

If the House pushes a bill thru not only is the GOP finished, but so is the country.
