Have you ever wished that errant journalists could get their noses rubbed in their own absurdities and outright falsehoods like puppy dogs who make a mess? Well, if you had been watching Meet The Press today then you would have seen Congressman Raul Labrador of Idaho do just that to the New York Times house "conservative" David Brooks who was slapped down not once but twice.
As you can see in this video and below the fold, Brooks didn't learn his lesson after being slapped down by Labrador for uttering absurdities about the Senate immigration bill. Labrador was forced to perform an encore performance after Brooks flat out uttered a falsehood. First we see Brooks describe how wonderful he thought the Senate immigration bill was:

No Labels Brooks admitted he agrees with Bloomberg on most issues.
The Congressman is quoting CBO projections - this is suspect from the get-go! He’s a smooth talker, but his analysis is suspect.
What would you expect from a guy who was overcome by a crease in somebody's trousers...???
All they know to do is to put unreasonable words into the mouths and minds of the reasonable opposition.

And I agree that there’s going to be economic growth when you have immigration reform, that’s why I’m a big proponent of immigration reform,.... We could do that and we could curtail a lot of the illegal immigration. There’s a lot of other things that we can do to make this law stronger.
Labrador makes no mention of the Rule of Law or the impact that this bill will have on American workers. It will increase legal immigration to 33 million over the next decade--equal to the total immigration over the past 40 years--and it doubles the size of the guest worker program by 1.6 million the first year and 600,000 a year every year thereafter.
No doubt, agribusiness is putting a lot of pressure on Labrador so they can get more agricultural labor into Idaho. No doubt they also contribute a lot of money to his campaign. I found Labrador's comments a red flag that should concern us. The fix may well be in. Look for some phony security fix that will give House Reps the cover to vote for amnesty.
40% of the illegals came here legally and overstayed their visas. Securing the border only solves part of the problem.

Labrador was trying to get on the amnesty bandwagon a week after the election.

No doubt some equivalent of the Corker-Hoeven amendment will be passed in the House to "fix" the bill so Reps like Labrador can vote for amnesty.
In order for us to have real immigration reform, our top priority needs to be to first secure our nation’s borders and start enforcing the immigration laws already enacted. To do so we must give our law enforcement officials the resources they need to enforce the laws on the books and secure our borders. I also believe that undocumented immigrants must return to their country of origin and then reapply to legally come to the United States. Finally, I believe that we need a guest worker program that actually works because guest workers play an important role in the American economy and more specifically in the state of Idaho. This guest worker program will not include a pathway to citizenship or amnesty.
I saw a news interview of Rep Trey Gowdy, who also — to my great surprise and disappointment — indicated his openness to a path to citizenship or some such catch-phrase indicating that he, too, apparently cannot be depended on in this legislative battle for the survival of this country.

Congressman Labrador addresses this point in his response to the ravings of the Rino. And the blatant lie from the shallow Brooks misquoting Mr. Labrador on a 90% reduction in illegal immigration and laying out a strawman 100% goal
is so obvious and contrived.
And where I think it is ok for the feds and states to work together, immigration, the Democrats will have none of it.

You may be right, but a path to citizenship is not in itself a bad thing. However, the path should be the same path everyone else has to take to get there. Application to the State Department for visa, (genuine) green card, education into the US system of governance, proof of ability to support self and any family, and passing a test. No short cuts.
And Labrador appears to have have no problem with expanding our guest worker programs while 22 million Americans are underemployed or unemployed. Labrador was a member of the House Gang of 8 before he walked away. He is an amnesty supporter.
"As long as we deal with all the other problems," he says, "they should be here legally and we can determine later what that means."
